Men have always been on the backseat in the highly women-centric modeling/ fashion industry.
And rightly so because there are very few men who can be labeled as a "total package" today - transitioning into a supermodel and so in truth never tread the line of fame as many women models do effortlessly.
Maybe the fashion industry is not attracting the right talent anymore when it comes to men!
The only exception (from an Indian point of view) -India saw hunks galore in the 90s in Milind Soman and Arjun Rampal who not only looked good on the ramp but could also act, talk and charm in one single breath! Both have aged gracefully and will always remain the epitome of manhood, no matter what.

I was disheartened to meet couple of male models from the current crop (touted by a magazine as the top male models of India) - they lack the charm, finesse and are mostly inapt of carrying on a decent conversation. Their physical assets are the only name of the game!
Seems like our designers only like walking mannequins. Not men with P-E-R-S-O-N-A-L-I-T-Y.
John Abraham who was an ace model could also be on my list of “total package” men. Too bad that male models do not have enough avenues to explore and grow within the fashion industry and invariably always end up doing something else (which may not be their natural choice of career progression)

Amongst the young crop of male models, I like Sahil Shroff, Namit Khanna and Niketan Madhok. They are good models……..supermodels? Na!

One name that resounds with male supermodel in my opinion is Karl Lagerfeld's muse - French model -Baptiste Giabiconi.
